# Infisical vs. AppViewX

AppViewX automates certificates through manually configured workflows and connectors you operate. Infisical automates every certificate out of the box.

## What's the difference between Infisical and AppViewX?

AppViewX is a capable platform, but it takes workflow design, connectors in your network, and specialists to run. Infisical works out of the box for your entire infrastructure and can be self-hosted.

| Stage | Infisical | AppViewX |
|---|---|---|
| Evaluate | Try the free tier with an internal CA, ACME automation, and the certificate dashboard; Self-host the MIT-licensed open-source version | Get a custom quote for each module; Factor in recent ownership and leadership changes |
| Deploy/integrate | Use managed cloud in EU or US regions; Self-host on Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, AWS ECS, or Google GKE; Use a gateway to reach private networks | Install a Cloud Connector and a Windows Gateway for Windows targets; Choose SaaS, private cloud, hybrid, or on-prem, and size it |
| Migrate/onboard | Connect the CAs you already use; Discover every certificate on your infrastructure, from any CA | Design a workflow for each renewal and provisioning path |
| Operate | Manage every certificate (on any infrastructure) in one dashboard; Renew, revoke, or reissue from the dashboard or API | Find features across a crowded interface; Wait on support when a workflow breaks |
| Automate | Renew automatically and sync certificates to 13+ destinations, with no agent on the target; Get a Slack, email, PagerDuty, or webhook alert before expiries | Maintain the workflows that drive renewals and installs |
| Scale | Add secrets, privileged access, AI agent security, or KMS on the same platform | Buy each capability as a separate module; Bring in another vendor for secrets |

## Infisical vs. AppViewX at a glance

AppViewX covers the certificate lifecycle through workflows and modules you set up. Infisical covers it out of the box.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Infisical an AppViewX alternative?

Yes. Infisical runs its own CAs, issues from public and enterprise CAs, discovers certificates on your network, renews them, and installs them where they're served, out of the box. AppViewX covers the same lifecycle, but through workflows you have to configure and maintain yourself.

### Who owns AppViewX?

Haveli Investments acquired AppViewX in a deal announced in November 2024. Since then, AppViewX has named a new CEO, chief product officer, CTO, and chief revenue officer. AppViewX hasn't published a detailed roadmap for its certificate lifecycle management product.

### Does AppViewX need software in my network?

Yes. The SaaS version reaches your network through an AppViewX Cloud Connector, plus a Windows Gateway for Windows targets. AppViewX can also run on-prem, in a private cloud, or hybrid. Infisical Cloud needs only one gateway to reach a private network.

### How much does AppViewX cost?

AppViewX is sold by custom quote, with modules like certificate management, PKI, code signing, and load balancer automation priced separately. The real cost is often in running it: designing and maintaining workflows, a connector in every network, and outside help for the rollout or extra engineering hires. Infisical works out of the box, has a free tier, and offers an MIT-licensed open-source version.

### Does AppViewX have secrets management?

No. AppViewX covers machine identities like certificates, SSH keys, and code signing, but not secrets management. Infisical runs certificates, secrets, privileged access, and KMS on one platform.

## Start managing certificates, then add secrets, privileged access, KMS, or agent access.

- **[Secrets Management](https://infisical.com/platform/secrets-management)**: Store, rotate, and deliver secrets.
- **[Certificate Management](https://infisical.com/platform/certificate-management)**: Issue, renew, and track every certificate.
- **[Privileged Access Management](https://infisical.com/platform/pam)**: Time-bound access without shared credentials.
- **[KMS](https://infisical.com/docs/documentation/platform/kms/overview)**: Encrypt and sign data through an API.
- **[Agent Vault](https://infisical.com/platform/agent-vault)**: Give AI agents access without handing them credentials.

## How to migrate from AppViewX to Infisical

Most teams keep their certificates flowing while they move to Infisical, one application at a time.

1. **Connect your CAs.** Connect the public and private CAs you issue from today, or create Infisical's own.
2. **Discover certificates.** Run discovery to find every certificate anywhere.
3. **Move one application.** Manage its certificates in Infisical, and sync them to wherever they're served.
4. **Retire AppViewX.** Turn off each workflow and connector as its applications move, then decommission AppViewX.
